What an honour to find I'd been nominated and shortlisted for the Newcomer category in the Independent Awards 2020! These prestigious awards have been created to showcase and recognise the very best creative small businesses across the UK. Spearheaded by Holly Tucker MBE, founder of Notonthehighstreet and Holly & Co, and UK Ambassador to Creative Small Businesses. The Newcomer Category celebrates new businesses that opened in the last 18 months bravely taking the leap to follow their passion, only to face one of the most challenging moments in our lifetime.
I opened my small business on 14th February this year not knowing that Rona was round the corner waiting to party! Forced to close five weeks after opening, just as spring/summer stock was arriving, I opted to make bespoke dresses whilst awaiting news on reopening. Reopening in June was a huge relief and I was overwhelmed by the tremendous support of so many wonderful customers, many travelling far to discover the delights inside what is truly a tiny shop of treasure! As I write this I'm preparing to reopen after the second lockdown and can't wait to get all festive and welcome customers back to the shop. This year has certainly been a baptism of fire however I've remained upbeat and positive, if I can survive this year I'm confident I'll weather whatever next year brings!
